Shankar Thiruchelvam is not your average therapist. With two decades of experience in the field of mental health, Shankar has established a presence in psychotherapy through his unconventional and holistic approach to treatment. He is a firm believer in the 7 quadrants of well-being, using this guiding framework to assist his patients in improving various aspects of their lives.
A former student of philosophy and law, Shankar emphasizes the importance of intellectual discourse in therapy. He takes pride in empowering his patients with the language and knowledge they need to better understand their conditions, place, and purpose in the world.
Shankar is what you might call a “Therapist Plus.” His methods and commitment extend beyond merely providing coping strategies. He strives to offer a platform that allows patients to curate their own path toward their highest life purpose and goals, at a pace that suits their unique disposition. Shankar does not believe that mental health struggles should define any individual. Instead, he works closely with his patients to help them transcend their struggles through carefully considered steps that reconnect them with their best nature while nurturing their personal skills and aspirations.
Shankar is a native Malaysian Ceylonese. He earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology from Upper Iowa University of Texas and holds a law degree from the University of London. He further pursued a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of Malaya in Malaysia. His eclectic passion for trauma, attachment, and boundaries in psychology drives him to provide the best possible care, avoiding a “one size fits all” approach to counseling.
Shankar is experienced in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including multiracial ethnicities, LGBTQ+, multi-faith, and other minority groups. He strongly believes in treating the person, not just the disorder—viewing individuals for who they are, rather than as manifestations of symptoms.
Shankar continues to work with clients around the world, including those from the USA, New Zealand, UK, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, and the Maldives, among many others.
This profile highlights Shankar’s unique approach, qualifications, and commitment to personalized care.
